The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Education, has honoured 17-year-old Nafisa Abdullah Aminu, who emerged as the World’s Best in English Language Skills at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals in London.
Nafisa, a student from Yobe State, received a cheque of N200,000 from the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, at a ceremony held in Abuja on Thursday.
The event was attended by dignitaries including the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suiwaba Ahmed; Yobe State Commissioner for Basic Education, Prof. Abba Adam; senior officials of the Federal Ministry of Education; and representatives of the Yobe State Ministry of Education. Five other category winners from the competition were also present.
Commending Nafisa, Dr. Alausa described her achievement as proof of the brilliance and resilience of Nigerian students, stressing that her global recognition highlights the importance of investing in education. He assured that the Federal Government remains committed to promoting academic excellence through scholarships, mentorship, and improved learning resources.
Prof. Abba Adam praised Nafisa and her peers as “Amazons” and symbols of resilience, linking their success to Yobe State’s recovery efforts in education after years of insurgency. He cited milestones such as the graduation of 171 state-sponsored medical students from India and the upgrading of state colleges to boost research and training.
In her remarks, Nafisa expressed gratitude to her parents, teachers, and the government for their support. She pledged to inspire other students and announced her project, English Language for Peace and Development, which seeks to promote literacy, dialogue, and social cohesion among young people.
Her success has sparked celebration in Yobe and across Nigeria, as stakeholders view it as a victory not just for the student but for the nation’s education sector.
