FCT Police bust robbery gang arrest 13 suspects

Security agencies intensify crackdown on crime

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has successfully dismantled a notorious criminal syndicate that has been terrorizing residents within the nation’s capital.

In a series of coordinated tactical raids, security operatives apprehended thirteen suspects linked to various high-profile robberies and “one chance” operations. This breakthrough follows a period of heightened surveillance and intelligence gathering aimed at restoring public confidence in Abuja’s security architecture.

The suspects were reportedly captured in their various hideouts across the city, including areas known for harboring criminal elements. During the operation, the police recovered several dangerous weapons, stolen vehicles, and communication gadgets used by the gang to coordinate their illicit activities. The FCT Commissioner of Police emphasized that these arrests are part of a broader mission to “sanitize” the capital territory from every form of banditry and urban crime.

Dismantling the one chance syndicate network

For months, commuters in Abuja have lived in constant fear of “one chance” operators who disguise as commercial drivers to kidnap and rob unsuspecting passengers. The police revealed that the arrested suspects belong to an organized network that operates multiple routes across the city. By infiltrating these gangs, undercover operatives were able to track their movements and strike at the most opportune moment.

Public outcry over the rising tide of insecurity in the FCT had reached a fever pitch before this major bust. Many residents took to social media to share harrowing experiences of being robbed at gunpoint in broad daylight. The police command has now urged the victims of such crimes to come forward and identify the suspects to help strengthen the ongoing prosecution process.

Strengthening community policing and surveillance

The FCT Police Command has reiterated its commitment to a “people-centered” security approach where citizens play an active role in crime prevention. They have called on landlords and traditional rulers to be more vigilant about the activities of new tenants within their domains. A spokesperson for the command noted that the “unapproachable” nature of some criminal hideouts is often breached through timely tips from the public.

To sustain this momentum, the police plan to increase foot and vehicular patrols in identified flashpoints such as Gwarinpa, Wuse, and the Airport Road. They are also working with the Department of State Services to track the financial trails of these robbery gangs. The goal is not just to arrest the foot soldiers but to decapitate the leadership that finances these dangerous operations.

Promoting a safer capital for all residents

As the city continues to grow, the pressure on the current security infrastructure remains astronomical. The FCT Minister has promised additional logistical support to the police to ensure they are better equipped to handle modern criminal challenges. This includes the deployment of more CCTV cameras and the modernization of the emergency response centers.

The thirteen suspects are currently undergoing rigorous interrogation and will be arraigned in court as soon as investigations are concluded. The police have warned other criminal elements still operating within the city to leave or face the full wrath of the law. Abuja must remain a safe haven for all Nigerians and foreign visitors alike.
