Fatal violence erupts at Kwara Polytechnic as cult clash leaves one dead

Former civil engineering student hacked to death on campus grounds
A violent rival cult clash erupted on the campus of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in the death of one individual.
The victim was identified as Oyelade Habeeb Olawale, a former student of the institution. Olawale, who was a former student in the Civil Engineering Department, was reportedly hacked to death during the brutal confrontation between the rival cult gangs.
The incident has heightened security concerns within the academic community and the surrounding area of Ilorin. This kind of violence is a major threat to the safety and sanctity of educational institutions. The clash underscores the persistent challenge of cultism that continues to plague tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
Clash triggered by unpermitted photo and resulting fracas
Initial reports reliably gathered indicate that the deadly confrontation was tragically triggered by a seemingly minor offense. A member of one of the rival cult groups reportedly took a photograph without the permission of the other group. This simple action immediately sparked a heated argument between the two factions.
The dispute quickly escalated into a violent fracas where weapons were brought into play. Axes were dangerously used during the fight, leading to the fatal injury of Oyelade Habeeb Olawale. The deceased was reportedly the head of one of the rival cult gangs, making him a primary target in the violent skirmish.
Polytechnic management confirms killing and arrests suspects
