EPL: Chelsea and Newcastle clash in mid-table mediocrity

Chelsea will welcome Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United to Stamford Bridge tonight, in a clash that promises to be difficult for the Blues.

The outcome of this match could impact Newcastle’s position on the table, but won’t impact Chelsea’s.

Newcastle sits 10th with 40 points, on top of Chelsea in 11th with 36 points. The Magpies could go 7th with a win, jumping over West Ham, Brighton and Wolves.

However, a win for Chelsea will leave it in 11th place, but with 39 points.

Fans of both teams came into the season expecting a lot more from their respective teams, but events have turned out much worse than they could’ve imagined.

Newcastle fans would be the more disappointed of the two, as their club finished fourth last season, qualifying for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in 20 years.

Chelsea finished 12th last season and looks set to do the same this season even though the club replaced the manager and the majority of the players from last season
