Eleven kidnapped women regain freedom in Borno State

Eleven women who were abducted by terrorists seven months ago during a fishing expedition in the Dille community of Askira/Uba Local Government Area have finally regained their freedom. The unexpected rescue has sparked emotional scenes of joy across the community following months of anguish, uncertainty, and silent prayers by grieving family members.

The successful rescue operation followed a series of highly coordinated offensives launched by the Nigerian Army under Operation HADINKAI. This major military breakthrough occurred barely twenty-four hours after troops successfully liberated four hundred and sixteen captured residents of the Ngoshe community.

Local community sources revealed that the freed women underwent comprehensive medical examinations and psychological health assessments before their official reunification with family members. Confirming the development, the Chairman of Askira/Uba Local Government Area, Mada Saidu, expressed immense gratitude over their safe return.

Ngoshe stakeholders disown unauthorized youth alliance

“We thank God for the safe return of our daughters and wives. We also appreciate the Nigerian Army, the Borno State government and all security agencies for their commitment and sacrifices toward ensuring their freedom and safety,” Saidu stated.

While celebrations continued in Askira/Uba, the Ngoshe Stakeholders Forum (NSF) held a press conference in Maiduguri to deny reports attributing their own community’s rescue to unauthorized civilian groups. The Chairman of the forum, Professor Suleiman Bello, categorically dissociated the community from claims made by a group operating under the name Borno South Youth Alliance.

Bello warned that certain unauthorized individuals were attempting to exploit the sensitive humanitarian crisis for personal gain, which risks undermining genuine military efforts. He commended the troops stationed in Ngoshe, Pulka, and Gwoza for their patriotism, while revealing that Defence Headquarters neutralized three hundred and seventeen terrorists in May 2026 alone.
