Eguma optimistic about Enyimba’s progress in second half of the season

Enyimba’s technical adviser, Stanley Eguma, is optimistic that his team can improve in the second half of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, following their first win of the second stanza.
The nine-time NPFL champions secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Lobi Stars on Monday, with Ifeanyi Ihemekwele scoring the only goal of the match five minutes before halftime. The win marked a significant turnaround for Enyimba, as it ended a six-match winless streak across all competitions.
“It’s a good performance and a good result. We drew at home, and now we’ve won away,” Eguma said after the match. “I joined this team recently, and the players are gradually understanding my philosophy, just as I am getting to know them better. This growing understanding is the reason we got this result.”
Eguma reflected on Enyimba’s struggles in the first round of the season but expressed confidence that they were beginning to put those challenges behind them. However, he also acknowledged the team’s position on the league table remains a concern.
“We’re gradually putting our first-round struggles behind us, but we’re still worried about our position in the league table. Our focus is to improve our standing,” he added.
Enyimba will look to build on this victory when they travel to face Akwa United on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
