The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will on Friday, August 15, 2025, arraign 23 suspected internet fraudsters before Justice Deinde Dipeolu of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos.
The suspects are among 93 individuals arrested during a pool party at a hotel within the premises of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta. According to EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, preliminary profiling revealed that most of the arrested persons were indicted for offences related to impersonation, identity theft, and internet fraud.
The EFCC disclosed that the party was originally planned for two separate venues but was moved to the OOPL hotel in an attempt to evade arrest. Intelligence reports indicated that organisers believed the venue would shield them from law enforcement.
The anti-graft agency clarified that the OOPL facility was not a target of its operation, stressing that only the suspects were under investigation. The arrested individuals have reportedly confessed to their involvement in cybercrime.
The arraignment will be conducted in batches, with the remaining suspects expected to be charged subsequently.
