The Lagos Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has again arraigned a controversial social media influencer, Okoro Blessing Nkiruka, popularly known as Blessing CEO. The self-acclaimed relationship therapist faced a fresh multi-million naira financial fraud charge at the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos.
The anti-graft agency docked the social media personality before Justice R.A. Oshodi on Tuesday on a comprehensive two-count judicial charge. The criminal counts specifically border on obtaining money by false pretense and stealing to the tune of sixty-nine million, one hundred and fifty thousand naira.
At the commencement of the courtroom proceedings, the prosecution counsel, C.C. Okezie, urged the court to proceed immediately with the formal arraignment. The prosecutor argued that operatives had duly served the defendant with the administrative details of the financial charge.
Defense counsel argues over late service
However, the defense counsel, Nkama Nneka, informed the trial judge that the prosecution only recently effected the service of the charge. In his official ruling, Justice Oshodi held that the formal arraignment must proceed in total accordance with the law, ordering the registrar to read the counts.
The prominent influencer pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge after the court registrar read the specifications of the alleged financial crime. The court subsequently ordered that the defendant be remanded in custody pending the official hearing and determination of her bail application.
