Education is key to national development – CDS Musa

On Tuesday, April 8, during the Groundbreaking and Fundraising Ceremony for the Defence and Police Officers Wives Association (DEPOWA) College in Abuja, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, emphasized that education remains a vital pillar for national development and societal progress.

Speaking at the event, Musa praised DEPOWA for its ongoing efforts to enhance education, empowerment, and community development. He highlighted the importance of the initiative, noting that it reflects a long-standing commitment to fostering holistic development for the nation’s youth.

“Education has always been a critical pillar for national development and societal progress,” said the CDS. “As we perform the ceremony for the DEPOWA College, we reaffirm our commitment to the holistic development of our children and future leaders.”

Musa stressed that the establishment of DEPOWA College was not merely about physical infrastructure, but about shaping a brighter future for the next generation. “This noble initiative by DEPOWA is not just about bricks and blocks, but also about the construction of a future built on knowledge, discipline, and character,” he added.

The defence chief further emphasized that the DEPOWA College would serve as an investment in the intellectual growth of youth, ensuring that they receive quality education that meets global standards.

He also commended DEPOWA for its consistent support to the families of military personnel, including widows and children, highlighting the association’s role in improving the welfare of officers’ families and providing empowerment programs for women.

Musa noted, “The establishment of this institution is another testament to DEPOWA’s unwavering dedication to societal transformation.”

He went on to underline the crucial role women play in shaping the future, stating that the DEPOWA College would offer a conducive learning environment for children, helping to ease the burdens on officers who are often away from their families due to their duties. This, he explained, would improve the morale and effectiveness of military and police personnel.

“Our commitment to safeguarding the sovereignty and security of our nation often demands long absences from our families. The DEPOWA College will provide a secure and structured environment for our children, giving our officers peace of mind that their loved ones are receiving quality education,” Musa said.

He concluded by urging well-meaning individuals, corporate organizations, and development partners to contribute generously to the project, and thanked President Bola Tinubu, the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, and members of the National Assembly for their continued support of the military’s role in national development.
