Don Jazzy reveals artist with best voice in Nigeria

Mavin boss names top vocalist, praises industry growth

Nigerian music mogul and Mavin Records CEO, Don Jazzy, has revealed the artist he believes has the best voice in Nigeria’s ever-evolving music scene.

In a recent interview shared on social media, Don Jazzy—whose real name is Michael Collins Ajereh—praised the immense vocal talent across the Nigerian music industry but singled out singer Johnny Drille as having “one of the purest and most powerful voices” in the country.

According to the legendary producer, Johnny Drille’s vocal depth, emotional delivery, and versatility make him a standout performer in an industry dominated by Afrobeats and street sounds.

Speaking on his reasons for choosing Johnny Drille, Don Jazzy explained that while Nigeria boasts a wide range of exceptional vocalists, from Tiwa Savage to Waje and Chike, Johnny Drille’s voice “touches the soul in a very rare way.”

“Johnny Drille has a voice that can move anyone. His tone, control, and delivery are exceptional. When he sings, you feel every word. I’ve worked with many talented vocalists, but Johnny has something spiritual about his sound,” Don Jazzy said.

He added that the singer’s passion for storytelling through music and his refusal to conform to industry trends have earned him a loyal fanbase.

“Johnny is not just a singer; he’s an artist who stays true to his craft. That’s what I admire most about him. He may not always be chasing hits, but his music endures,” the producer added.

Don Jazzy emphasized the importance of nurturing upcoming vocal talents, urging record labels to invest in vocal training and production quality to sustain the industry’s global growth.

As Nigerian music continues to soar globally, Don Jazzy’s comments serve as a reminder of the diversity within the industry—where not every star shines through beats and rhythm, but through pure, heartfelt artistry.
