DeeOne accuses IGP Disu of shielding VeryDarkMan after ignored police invitations
Nigerian comedian and influencer Aderombi Adedayo Martins, popularly known as DeeOne, has accused Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tunji Disu of shielding social media critic Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, from arrest.
In an Instagram video on Tuesday, DeeOne reacted to the police not arresting VeryDarkMan after he refused to honour an invitation for questioning. He cited the arrests of Blord and former Big Brother Naija housemate Tacha over alleged failure to honour invitations, and said no citizen should be treated differently.
He said Tacha was arrested after missing two invitations and later released on bail, and that Blord was arrested and charged after not appearing when required. VeryDarkMan, he said, had been invited twice, had stated publicly that he would not attend, and yet had not been picked up.
DeeOne claimed approval for an arrest existed and that Disu was the person holding it back. He asked whether the IGP was working for Nigerians or for VeryDarkMan, and said he would continue to post videos, including on aspects of the IGP’s record.
VeryDarkMan had announced that he would not honour the invitation. He was asked to appear after making a series of allegations against Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Jimoh Moshood.
The complaint is about consistency of enforcement. Police invitations are not optional in the examples DeeOne lists; failure to appear was followed by arrest in those cases. If VeryDarkMan has openly refused and no arrest has followed, the public question is whether the standard applied to Tacha and Blord applies here. The Force has not, in this account, explained the difference. Until it does, the accusation of selective protection remains a charge without an official rebuttal—and the invitation itself remains unanswered.
