Cross River launches bold energy reform, creates 3 new electricity agencies

On Thursday, March 6, Cross River State made an exciting move to improve its energy sector by creating three new electricity agencies.
The new agencies include the Cross River State Electricity Regulatory Commission (CRSERC), which will oversee electricity rules and regulations, the Cross River State Electrification Agency (CRSEA), which will bring reliable power to areas that don’t have enough electricity, and the Cross River State Independent System Operator (CRSISO), which will manage the electricity system to make sure everything runs smoothly.
This decision was made during an emergency State Executive Council meeting, which was led by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Peter Odey, on behalf of Governor Senator Bassey Otu. The meeting approved a new state-owned electricity policy document, which aims to transform the way electricity works in Cross River.
The new State Electricity Policy is a big plan to change the energy system by introducing a more competitive market and creating strong institutions to support the changes.
Dr. Odey shared that the main goal of the policy is to make electricity more available to everyone in the state. He said, “This policy has an ambitious target to achieve 95% electricity access in the state by 2028.”
He also explained that the policy will work to increase power generation, improve the efficiency of how electricity is delivered, and ensure better protection for consumers and more energy efficiency.
