COAS approves major postings, appointments of senior army officers

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has approved the postings and appointments of several senior officers to key command, staff, and instructional positions across the formations, units, and training institutions of the Nigerian Army.

Among the newly appointed officers is Major General Bamidele Alabi, who has been redeployed to the Army Headquarters, Department of Policy and Plans, as Chief of Policy and Plans (Army). Also, Major General Jamal Abdulsalam, formerly Chief of Special Services and Programmes, now proceeds to Defence Headquarters, Department of Operations, as Chief of Defence Operations, while Major General Peter Mala moves from the Office of the National Security Adviser to Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) as Commander.

Major General Samson Jiya was moved from the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre (NAHFC) to Defence Headquarters, Department of Defence Accounts and Budget, where he will serve as Chief of Defence Accounts and Budget.

Other key appointments include Major General Mayirenso Saraso, who becomes Chief of Operations (Army); Major General Isa Abdullahi, who now serves as Chief of Administration (Army); and Major General Musa Etsu-Ndagi, who was redeployed to head the Department of Civil-Military Affairs as Chief of Civil-Military Affairs (Army).

Similarly, Major General Abubakar Haruna was appointed Commander of the Nigerian Army Training Centre (NATRAC), Kontagora, while Major General Philip Ilodibia was redeployed to the Defence Space Administration as Chief of Defence Space Administration.

Major General Godwin Mutkut will now serve as Corps Commander Infantry at the Infantry Corps Centre, while Major General Umar Abubakar assumes duty as Commander of the Nigerian Army Armour Corps. Major General John Adeyemo moves to Headquarters Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery as Corps Commander Artillery, and Major General Mohammed Abdullahi becomes Corps Commander Signals.

Also affected are Major General Taofik Sidick, who becomes Chief of Accounts and Budget (Army); Major General Abdullahi Ibrahim, who now heads the Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps; and Major General Adeyinka Adereti, appointed Corps Commander of the Nigerian Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.

Major General Nansak Shagaya now heads the Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport, while Brigadier General Yusha’u Ahmed assumes office as Acting Corps Commander Education.

In the training institutions, Major General Oluyemi Olatoye was appointed Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna; Major General Emmanuel Mustapha becomes Commandant of the Nigerian Army Signal School; Major General Adamu Hassan was posted to the Nigerian Army School of Artillery as Commandant; and Brigadier General John Bulus is the new Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Finance and Accounts.

Senior officers appointed as field commanders include Major General Saidu Audu, who will lead the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), N’Djamena, as Force Commander; Major General Warrah Idris, who assumes command of the Joint Task Force North West (Operation FANSAN YAMMA); and Major General Oluremi Fadairo, who becomes the General Officer Commanding 82 Division and Commander, Joint Task Force South East (Operation UDOKA).

The COAS also approved the appointment of Major General Olatokumbo Bello as Director, Defence Media Operations, at Defence Headquarters, while Brigadier General Samaila Uba moves to Defence Headquarters as Director, Defence Information.

The Nigerian Army said the postings are aimed at reinvigorating the service for operational efficiency, professional development, and improved national security outcomes.
