Chelsea kicks out Leicester City to reach semifinal
Chelsea knocked out Leicester City in the quarterfinal of the FA Cup when the Foxes visited yesterday, March 17.
The match kicked off on Sunday afternoon.
Leicester City, in 2021, had beat Chelsea in the final of this competition through a Youri Tielemans goal from a long shot. This time, Chelsea made sure they didn’t get beat, scoring two goals in added time to ensure that didn’t happen.
Chelsea took the lead in the 13th minute from a Marc Cucurella strike. Mauricio Pochettino’s men had the chance to double the lead in the 26th minute from the penalty spot, but Raheem Sterling had his penalty saved after he had taken the ball off the team’s designated taker Cole Palmer. The Blues eventually did double the lead in the 46th minute from a Cole Palmer strike, making it 2-0 at halftime.
Chelsea looked like it was coasting through the game, but an Axel Disasi own goal halved the lead in the 51st minute and Stephen Mavdidi equalized the game in the 62nd minute. Leicester City saw Callum Doyle sent off for a last-man tackle in the 73rd minute.
It wasn’t until two minutes into added time that substitute Carney Chukwuemeka scored to put the Blues ahead. Noni Madueke scored again in the 98th minute to make it 4-2 to Chelsea.
This win sends Pochettino’s men to the semifinal.
