Buhari calls flood in Maiduguri, others national calamity
Former President Muhammadu Buhari has labeled the recent flooding in Maiduguri and other affected states as a “national calamity.”
Buhari made this statement while expressing his condolences to the government and people of Borno State, following severe flooding caused by continuous heavy rainfall.
In a brief statement released by his Media Aide, Garba Shehu, Buhari acknowledged the “widespread devastation of homes, farmland, and the tragic loss of life” across Borno and several other states.
He expressed hope that relief efforts from various governments would offer comfort and assist those who have lost loved ones and their livelihoods in returning to normalcy.
“My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this natural disaster,” Buhari said.
The flooding has severely disrupted Maiduguri’s socioeconomic activities, primarily due to the collapse of water channels at the Alau Dam. Many residents have been displaced as a result of the heavy rains and subsequent flooding.
