Bryan Mbeumo joins “childhood dream” Manchester United on £65m deal

Cameroon international Bryan Mbeumo has completed a high-profile move to Manchester United from Brentford, signing a deal that runs until 2030 with an option for an additional year, the club announced on Monday.
The 25-year-old winger, who enjoyed a breakout season with 20 Premier League goals in 38 games last term, joins the Red Devils for a reported £65 million ($87 million), with an additional £6 million in performance-related add-ons.
“As soon as I knew there was a chance to join Manchester United, I had to take the opportunity to sign for the club of my dreams,” Mbeumo said.
“The team whose shirt I wore growing up. This is a massive club, with an incredible stadium and amazing fans—we are all really determined to challenge for the biggest trophies.”
A key signing for Amorim’s rebuild
United beat strong competition from Tottenham Hotspur, now managed by Mbeumo’s former boss Thomas Frank, to secure the winger’s signature. The move represents a significant boost for new head coach Ruben Amorim, who is attempting to rebuild the squad after a disastrous 2024–25 campaign.
The Red Devils endured one of their worst seasons in decades—finishing 15th in the Premier League and losing the Europa League final to Tottenham. Mbeumo’s signing follows the arrivals of Wolves forward Matheus Cunha and Paraguayan teenage defender Diego Leon.
“We are delighted to have secured another one of our primary targets ahead of the pre-season tour,” said United’s director of football Jason Wilcox.
“The experience in the US will be the perfect opportunity for Bryan to work with Ruben and his new team-mates as we prepare for an exciting season ahead.”
From Brentford standout to Old Trafford spotlight
Mbeumo joined Brentford from French side Troyes in 2019 and played a crucial role in the club’s rise to the Premier League and their solid performances in the top flight. Over six seasons, he registered 70 goals and 51 assists in 242 appearances across all competitions. He helped the Bees gain promotion in 2021 and was instrumental in their 10th-place finish last season.
“My mentality is to always be better than I was yesterday,” Mbeumo said. “I know that I have the spirit and character to reach another level here learning from Ruben Amorim and playing alongside world-class players.”
What’s next for United
United kick off their pre-season tour in the United States this Sunday with a match against West Ham. They’ll begin their 2025–26 Premier League campaign with a high-stakes fixture against Arsenal on August 17.
With Mbeumo joining the squad, Amorim will be hoping the winger can solve the club’s attacking problems—especially after Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee failed to meet expectations last season.
