BREAKING: Worries in Abuja as tremors, vibrations continue for five days

Residents of Mpape, a neighborhood in Abuja, Nigeria, are feeling worried because of strange shaking and vibrations that have been happening over the past five days.

Dr. Ebenezer Adebisi, who leads the Mpape Hills Landlord Association, shared with reporters on Tuesday, September 17, that the shaking started recently but is now happening regularly. “It’s not the first time we’ve felt something like this,” he said. “But it has become more consistent in the past five days.”

Dr. Adebisi mentioned that this shaking seems different from the usual vibrations caused by quarry companies blasting rocks in the area. The shaking was especially strong on Sunday and Monday nights. “We don’t really know what would have caused the vibration,” he added.

He also pointed out that other areas like Gwarinpa and Katampe are feeling the same thing, but there has been no official word from the government yet. “It’s important we let Nigerians know the situation now; we are calling on the Nigerian government and the Nigerian Geological Agency to come to the rescue of the residents,” he said.

Dr. Adebisi urged that quick actions be taken to address the situation and asked for advice on what residents should do next.

Mrs. Florence Ilesanmi, who lives in Gwari Village, Mpape, shared with NAN on Tuesday, September 17, that she has been experiencing the same shaking. Madam Aisha Lawal, a resident of the Crushrock area of Mpape, also told NAN about her concerns with the shaking, noting that the intervals between them were worrying.

An official from the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency, who wished to stay anonymous, advised residents to consider moving temporarily if the shaking continues. The official said that residents should keep track of how often the shaking happens. “I ‘googled’ the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency (NGSA),” said one resident who spoke to the official. “They told me to record every time the vibration occurs.”

The official confirmed that all necessary equipment is already in place to handle any emergencies and advised residents to evacuate if the shaking becomes severe.
