BREAKING: Kidnapped NYSC members rescued, says DG Ahmed

The eight National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who were abducted by unknown assailants while traveling from Uyo in Akwa Ibom State to Sokoto State have been safely rescued.

The Director-General of NYSC, YD Ahmed, announced the news at a press briefing on Friday, August 23. He took the opportunity to advise Corps Members to avoid traveling at night.

“We all remember when these members were traveling from Uyo to Sokoto,” Ahmed stated.

“They were kidnapped on August 17, 2024, on Funtua Bisau Road in Zamfara State.”

Ahmed explained that the NYSC had collaborated with the Army, Police, Department of State Services (DSS), and local traditional rulers to address the situation.

“We also held discussions with the governor of Zamfara State about the kidnapping,” he added.

“Thanks to the joint efforts of the security agencies, especially the Nigerian Army, and the NYSC, we were able to rescue the first group of four members. The operation continued, leading to the successful release of all eight members.”
