Bournemouth chief scout to join Hughes at Liverpool

Mark Burchill, AFC Bournemouth’s Chief Scout, has also been hired by Liverpool to join future Sporting Director Richard Hughes at the end of the season, Fabrizio Romano reports.

Romano revealed this in a post on X.

It is not confirmed yet, but the agreement is in place.

This is part of Football CEO Michael Edwards’s plan to build a new football structure at Liverpool to help handle football operations in the absence of Jurgen Klopp, who leaves at the end of the season.

Michael Edwards, Richard Hughes and Mark Burchill are not expected to resume work at Anfield until the current season officially ends on June 30.

It is clear that Edwards is calling the shots, as he was Sporting Director at Liverpool from 2016 to 2022. He made some remarkable signings in that time, and he is well respected in the football world.

Liverpool has left Edwards to make all the football decisions for the 2024/25 season, even the next manager.
