Ayra Starr eyes Grammy win, billboard No. 1, and super bowl halftime show after latin diamond milestone

Nigerian Afrobeats star Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, popularly known as Ayra Starr, has set her sights on winning a Grammy, topping the Billboard Hot 100, and headlining the Super Bowl halftime show, following her recent achievement as the first African artist to earn a Latin Diamond certification.

Ayra reached the milestone after her international hit collaboration Santa with Rvssian and Rauw Alejandro was certified Latin Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), having surpassed 35 million streams. This places her alongside fellow Nigerian artist Rema, whose song Bubalu holds an RIAA Latin Platinum certification.

In a recent interview with eTalk, the 23-year-old Mavin Records-signed singer expressed her ambitions for global domination. “I definitely want a top Hot 100 Billboard song. That’s a must. I want Grammys upon Grammys. I’m going to tour the world… I want a number one record in the world,” she said.

Looking ahead, Ayra also revealed dreams beyond music. “Ten years from now, I want to do my own Super Bowl. Twenty years from now, I want to have my own brand… either in fashion, makeup, beauty, skincare—something fun.”

Although she is yet to clinch a Grammy, Ayra Starr made history in 2024 as the youngest and first Nigerian female artist nominated for the Best African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammy Awards, with her breakout hit Rush. She competed alongside Nigerian stars Davido, Burna Boy, Asake, and Olamide, though South Africa’s Tyla eventually won the category with her viral single Water.

Ayra Starr continues to cement her place as one of Africa’s most promising global exports, blending bold ambition with groundbreaking achievements.
