Atletico Madrid takes advantage to Signal Iduna Park

Atletico Madrid came out victorious when it faced Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter final draw.

The match was played at the Wanda Metropolitano on Wednesday, April 10.

Atletico had key players in the starting eleven like Alvaro Morata, Rodrigo De Paul, Antoine Griezmann, Koke, and Jan Oblak, though it was noticeably missing key forward Memphis Depay.

Dortmund also saw key starters take the field including Karim Adeyemi, Jadon Sancho, Nico Schlotterbeck, Gregory Kobel, and Mats Hummels. The Dortmund starting lineup was missing key striker Sebastien Haller as well.

Atletico struck early, taking the lead in the 4th minute through a De Paul goal. Samuel Lino doubled that lead in the 32nd minute with a superb strike.

Diego Simeone’s men had many more chances to score, but failed to find a third goal. A third goal would eventually come in the game, but it would be for the visiting side, through a sublime strike from substitute Haller in the 81st minute.

This win means that Atletico will enter the second leg already 2-1 up on aggregate, but they still have to weather the storm that is Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park.
