Arteta insulted my family in Spanish - Conceicao

The Porto manager, Sergio Conceicao, accused Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, of insulting his family in Spanish, during the game.

Conceicao said this in the post-match press conference when he was being questioned by journalists as is routine before and after every football game.

“Arteta turned to the bench during the game and insulted my family in Spanish. I told him that the person he insulted is no longer among us. Let him worry about training his team, which has more than enough quality to play a lot better,” the Portuguese manager said.

This is not the first time Porto’s manager would accuse his opposite number of similar, as he also accused then Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel of insulting him in 2021 after their quarterfinal tie.

“I was insulted by this gentleman who is next door… My English is not perfect, there’s no point in talking about it. There was no word exchange because I was focused on the game, I don’t know why his reaction,” he said, at the time.

Arsenal sources denied the allegations of inappropriate or offensive language used by Arteta.

Arsenal came out victorious over FC Porto last night in a hard-fought battle that saw both teams need penalties to decide the winner. Arsenal scored all the four penalties they took, but Porto had two of their penalties saved by loanee goalkeeper David Raya.

Porto is currently third in the Liga Portugal Betclic, seven points behind the league leaders SL Benfica.
