Arrest by proxy is illegal and wrong – FPRO
The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, spoke out against the practice of “arrest by proxy,” calling it unacceptable and wrong.
Arrest by proxy happens when someone is arrested for another person’s alleged crime, even though they were not involved in the crime.
On X.com (formerly Twitter) on Friday, August 30, Adejobi said, “Arrest by proxy is unprofessional, illegal, and unacceptable. Re-echo it.
“You can’t arrest the mother in place of her son for an offence she knows nothing about. Except if the mother has been alleged of or one sees traces of conspiracy, accessory before the fact, and accessory after the fact.”
He also mentioned that Investigating Police Officers need to be certain before making any arrest.
“The IPO must be sure of any of these before arresting the mother. But if not, arrest by proxy is an act of wickedness, illegality.”
Adejobi promised that more details about this issue will be shared soon.
