APGA releases timetable for 2026 Anambra local government primaries

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has released its provisional timetable for the 2026 Anambra State local government primary elections, with the sale of nomination forms scheduled to begin on January 27.

In a statement issued in Awka on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, the party said the timetable was approved in line with APGA’s constitution and the schedule of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC).

According to the timetable, the sale and return of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms will take place at the party’s Awka Regional Secretariat from January 27 to February 6.

The party said screening of chairmanship and councillorship aspirants will be conducted from February 7 to February 11 across the state’s 21 local government areas and 326 wards.

Appeals arising from the screening exercise are expected to be resolved on February 13, while ward congresses to elect councillorship candidates and ad-hoc delegates will hold on February 14.

APGA fixed February 15 for the chairmanship primary election, with appeals from the primaries scheduled for February 16, all to take place in Awka.

The party also announced that chairmanship nomination forms will cost N6 million, while councillorship forms will be sold for N600,000, adding that female aspirants and persons with disabilities will pay 50 per cent of the stipulated fees.

It noted that all payments are non-refundable and that the dates remain subject to change, urging intending aspirants to strictly comply with the party’s guidelines and electoral regulations.
