Osun APC Slams PDP Over Petition to International Community on LG Allocations

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has criticised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for allegedly misleading the international community over local government (LG) allocation matters and accused the party of political desperation.
What the APC said
In a statement issued Monday by Kola Olabisi, the Osun APC Director of Media and Information, the party described the PDP’s recent petition to global human rights and diplomatic organisations as “a waste of time” and “a misguided attempt to garner sympathy”.

What the PDP had said
This comes after Osun PDP chairman, Sunday Bisi, accused the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, and the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, of complicity in the alleged illegal withholding of LG funds and deliberate disobedience of a Court of Appeal judgment that recognised PDP-elected local council officials.
But the Osun APC dismissed the allegations, saying:
“It is a pity that the Osun PDP could expose itself to the diplomatic community claiming local government allocations are being withheld when nothing of such is happening.”
The party added that the Court of Appeal ruling on February 10, 2025, reinstated the APC-elected LG chairmen and councillors, and they are in the process of rightfully collecting their allocations.

On PDP’s legal stance, APC questioned:
“Why is the PDP withdrawing litigation from the Supreme Court if it believes in its case?”
More accusations at the PDP
It also accused the PDP-led Osun State government of misappropriating ₦84 billion, allegedly obtained from the LG system, and argued that the PDP should use legal channels such as contempt proceedings if it believed federal ministers had violated court orders—not resort to writing petitions to non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that lack jurisdiction.
“The PDP knows it has no case. Writing petitions to NGOs is a waste of time,” the APC said.
The APC further warned against what it described as attempts to “politicise the judiciary” and accused the PDP of undermining local government autonomy granted by the Supreme Court.
The situation continues to intensify amid ongoing tension over control and funding of LGs in Osun State.
