Major restructuring launched to reposition the party
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the dissolution of all local government and ward executive committees in Enugu State, in what party leaders describe as a strategic step toward revitalizing the party’s grassroots structure.
This announcement was made on Sunday, October 12, 2025, by Dr. Ben Nwoye, Chairman of the APC’s State Caretaker Committee, during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Enugu for the Enugu West Senatorial District.
The development comes amid speculations of Governor Peter Mbah’s imminent defection to the APC, a move expected to significantly alter the state’s political dynamics.
Dissolution backed by national directive
According to Dr. Nwoye, the decision to dissolve the existing party leadership at the ward and local government levels followed directives from the party’s National Working Committee (NWC). He explained that the decision was not abrupt but followed extensive consultations with key party figures both at the national and state levels.
“This dissolution is not a punishment; rather, it is a strategic move to rebuild the APC in Enugu State from the ground up,” Nwoye stated. “We want a party structure that truly represents the interests of our members — one that will be inclusive, transparent, and accountable.”
Addressing internal crises and building unity
Nwoye admitted that the APC in Enugu State had, in recent years, suffered from factionalism, leadership crises, and a general lack of cohesion that hindered its performance in past elections. He emphasized that the restructuring was essential for resolving these challenges and restoring confidence among party members.
“Unity is the foundation for success in any political organization. We must come together as one family if we are to make meaningful progress,” he said.
The caretaker chairman urged party members to avoid divisive politics, warning against internal sabotage and personal ambition that could derail the party’s growth.
Reconstitution process to begin soon
The APC leadership also confirmed that a reconstitution process would soon begin to fill the now-vacant positions at the grassroots level. Dr. Nwoye assured that the process would be open, democratic, and merit-based, allowing for the emergence of credible and committed party leaders.
“We are calling on all loyal and grassroots-focused members to prepare to take up leadership roles. The new structure must reflect the will of the people and promote inclusiveness,” he said.
Stakeholders applaud bold reform
The stakeholders’ meeting, which drew attendance from party chieftains, coordinators, ward leaders, and members across the senatorial district, ended on a positive note. Many party members described the dissolution as a courageous and timely move, long overdue in light of the party’s declining grassroots influence.
Several attendees noted that the previous structure had marginalized key communities and lacked effective coordination. They expressed renewed optimism that the reorganization would usher in fresh ideas, young leadership, and more effective grassroots mobilization ahead of the 2027 general elections.
APC eyes stronger political presence in Enugu
Dr. Nwoye concluded by expressing confidence that with the restructuring, the APC would be better positioned to challenge the ruling party in Enugu and emerge as a dominant force in the coming political season.
“The APC remains a strong platform for change, and with this new restructuring, we are confident that Enugu will soon become a stronghold of the party,” he said.
As the party gears up for a new chapter, all eyes remain on the potential defection of Governor Peter Mbah, which could further reshape Enugu’s political landscape and reinforce the APC’s quest for expansion in the South-East.
