Agboola wins Ondo PDP primary

Former Ondo State Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi yesterday won the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the November election.

Agboola was candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in the 2020 election, but came a distant third.

He polled 264 votes at the party primary to defeat six other aspirants.

No fewer than 627 delegates were elected at the party congress, but 621 were accredited to vote.

A former member of the House of Representatives, Kolade Akinjo, who came second, got 157 votes. Two votes were declared invalid.

Other aspirants were: Otunba Bamidele Akingboye (24 votes); Adeolu Akinwumi (64 votes); Arebuwa Bosun (two votes); Ebiseni Olusola (99 votes) and John Mafo (nine votes).

Ajayi served as Deputy Governor between 2017 and 2021. He fell out with his boss, the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
