After meeting Ribadu, US Congressman Riley Moore lauds Tinubu’s renewed push against insecurity

A visiting United States Congressman, Riley Moore, has expressed confidence in the Federal Government’s intensified efforts to tackle Nigeria’s worsening security challenges.
Mr Moore, one of the US lawmakers who have repeatedly raised concerns over alleged targeted attacks on Christians in Nigeria, stated this after a meeting between a US congressional delegation and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, in Abuja.
In a statement posted on his X handle on Monday, the congressman described the engagement with Mr Ribadu as “productive and positive,” noting that several concrete measures were discussed which, if implemented, would significantly bolster security nationwide.
He said the talks covered strategies to dismantle terrorist networks in the North-East, improve protection for vulnerable communities, and address killings in the Middle Belt.
“There were concrete steps and actions discussed at length that, if fully executed, I believe will enhance security across the country for all Nigerians; disrupt and destroy terrorist organizations in the Northeast; and stop the killing of Christians — a specific concern for @POTUS and myself — particularly in the Middle Belt,” he wrote.
According to him, Washington’s heightened sense of urgency on Nigeria’s security situation was well understood by Nigerian authorities. He noted that the newly established Nigeria–US joint task force offers a promising path toward deeper security cooperation.
Mr Moore said the Nigerian government had shown openness and willingness to strengthen collaboration with the United States, but stressed that such goodwill must translate into concrete and sustained action.
The congressman also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the rescue of over 100 abducted Catholic schoolchildren, describing the operation as “a positive demonstration” of the administration’s responsiveness.
“I want to thank the Nigerian government and @officialABAT for rescuing the 100 innocent and precious Catholic schoolchildren. This is a positive demonstration of the government’s increasing response to the security situation and shows commitment to the emergency declaration laid out by President Tinubu,” he said.
Mr Moore added that although substantial work remains to be done, recent engagements signal that “things are moving in the right direction.”
He expressed optimism about the next phase of discussions with Nigerian authorities and reaffirmed the US delegation’s commitment to “continued open dialogue” aimed at restoring peace and stability across the country.
