Adeleke says Osun won’t return to ‘dark days’ of bad governance

Governor returns from U.S. trip, fires up supporters

Back from a short vacation in the U.S. — where he attended his nephew Davido’s star-studded wedding in Miami — Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke is already back in campaign mode.

Speaking at a reception held in his honour at the PDP secretariat in Osogbo on Thursday, the governor assured party faithful and residents that Osun would never return to what he called its “dark past.”

“We’ve moved Osun from pity to confidence, poverty to prosperity,” Adeleke declared. “We’ve built hope, and we won’t let anyone roll back our progress.”

“We are light; we will overcome darkness”

Adeleke used the moment to rally both his party and the wider public ahead of the 2026 elections. He urged people to take part in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise and prepare to defend the PDP’s hold on the state.

“Talk to your neighbours, friends, and families,” he said. “Mobilize. Show them our work. Osun must never go back. We are light, and we will overcome darkness.”

PDP leadership: defections won’t stop us

Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, also addressed the crowd, saying that recent defections from the PDP were no cause for panic. According to him, the real strength of the party lies with the people who have benefited from Adeleke’s administration.

“It was tougher in 2022 when we had no Senator. Today, we’re the party to beat,” Egbedun said. “The more difficult the battle, the sweeter the victory.”

Party chairman: our opponents have no track record

PDP state chairman, Sunday Bisi, echoed those sentiments. He said Governor Adeleke’s track record of delivering on good governance speaks for itself, especially when compared to his potential opponents from the APC.

“None of them can match what Adeleke has done. We’ll defeat them easily in 2026,” Bisi said. “But we need to keep working — mobilize, register, vote.”
