Adeleke documented as Accord Party candidate for Osun poll

Governor makes strategic move ahead of 2026 guber race
The Osun State political landscape has been rocked by the official announcement that Governor Ademola Adeleke has been successfully documented as the governorship candidate for the Accord Party.
Speaking in Osogbo on Thursday, January 29, 2026, the State Chairman of the Accord Party, Pastor Victor Akande, confirmed that all necessary paperwork for the Governor’s candidacy has been finalized. This “National” sensation comes as a strategic masterstroke, providing the Governor with a viable alternative platform as internal friction continues within his original party.
Pastor Akande noted that the Accord Party is delighted to welcome a candidate of Adeleke’s stature, describing him as a leader with “Renewed Hope” for the people of Osun. He maintained that the documentation process was conducted in total compliance with the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). According to the Chairman, the party is now positioned as the third force capable of sweeping the upcoming July 2026 governorship elections.
The Governor’s move is seen by political analysts as a “safety net” to protect his second-term ambition from potential legal or administrative hurdles. While Adeleke has not officially resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the documentation with Accord suggests a dual-track strategy to ensure he remains on the ballot. This development has sent shockwaves through the opposition camps, who are now recalibrating their strategies for what promises to be a highly competitive “National” interest contest.
