ADC wins polling unit over APC amid low turnout in FCT area council elections

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has secured victory over the All Progressives Congress (APC) at a polling unit in the ongoing Area Council elections across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The contest at Polling Unit 076, Sani Abacha Estate, Wuse Zone 4, witnessed generally low voter participation. Out of 10 votes recorded, the ADC polled seven, APC received two, and one ballot was rejected. The unit is where the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship candidate, Dr. Moses Paul, cast his vote.

Paul attributed the low turnout in parts of the council to movement restrictions announced by the Minister of the FCT and alleged intimidation of his party’s agents. He described the situation as unprecedented, saying he had lived in AMAC for about 40 years and had never witnessed such a development, which he likened to “a state of emergency.”

While electoral officials at his polling unit reportedly followed due process, Paul said ADC agents in Takum Shara and parts of Kabusa ward, including Dogongada and Shereti, were allegedly threatened, with some reportedly told they could be maimed or killed. He said such actions appeared aimed at suppressing voters and influencing the process in favour of the ruling party.

Paul also condemned vote buying as criminal and alleged that it was ongoing in parts of the capital city. Despite these challenges, he expressed confidence of emerging victorious, emphasizing that the will of the people would prevail and urging Nigerians to resist intimidation and demand accountable leadership.
