ADC south-west caucus raises concerns over Aregbesola’s alleged actions ahead of 2027 polls

The South-West caucus of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed concern over the alleged actions of its National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, warning that they are undermining the party’s coordination and progress in the region ahead of the 2027 elections.

The concerns followed a review of the party’s recently concluded national convention in Abuja, with the caucus stating that the issues go beyond the event and point to deeper challenges affecting unity, coordination and preparedness in the zone.

The position was contained in a statement issued by the party’s National Director of Communication and Programmes, Dr Babatunde Oke, on behalf of the South-West leadership led by Honourable Rahman Owokoniran.

While reaffirming commitment to unity and cooperation, the caucus said it had identified what it described as a major internal issue affecting the region, noting that the situation has persisted despite repeated complaints to the party’s national headquarters.

“We have written to the national headquarters of our great party… lodged complaints severally against his actions and the negative impacts on the progress of the party in the South-West, ranging from membership registrations, party expansion. The worst of all is the ridiculous turnout from South-West in the last national convention,” the statement said.

The caucus questioned Aregbesola’s alignment with the party’s goals, urging him to clarify his position.

“You cannot claim you are working for ADC and at the same time destroying and sabotaging the progress,” it added.

Describing the South-West’s performance at the convention as disappointing, the leaders said the outcome was unacceptable given the region’s importance to the party.

They further alleged that Aregbesola’s actions led to internal crises, including duplicate state congresses and the emergence of parallel structures within the zone.

The caucus called on the party’s national leadership, led by Chairman David Mark, to urgently intervene and address the situation to ensure stability.

It warned that unresolved internal tensions could affect the party’s chances in future elections, urging all stakeholders to avoid actions capable of creating division and instead focus on strengthening the party.
