ADC slams Tinubu over northern appointments, labels move ‘political panic management’

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned President Bola Tinubu’s recent wave of appointments, accusing him of attempting to pacify Northern Nigerians after over two years of what the party described as “deliberate neglect.”

In a statement released Friday and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said the appointments were not a genuine step toward national inclusion but rather a desperate response to growing political pressure. “You cannot marginalise a region for over twenty-five months and expect applause because you suddenly remembered on the twenty-sixth month that Nigeria is bigger than Lagos State,” the statement read.

The party accused the Tinubu-led administration of systematically excluding the North from key government decisions and appointments since assuming office. “For over a year, this government turned a blind eye as bandits terrorised villages in the North, as our farmers abandoned their land, and as rural economies crumbled under the weight of poorly thought-out fuel subsidy removal,” Abdullahi stated.

The ADC further linked the recent appointments to rising dissatisfaction among Nigerians and the momentum of a newly emerging opposition coalition gaining ground in the North and across the country. “Now, under the rising heat of public discontent, and with the emergence of a formidable opposition coalition, President Tinubu suddenly remembers that there are Nigerians to appoint into positions outside his Lagos,” the party said.

While the presidency has yet to respond, the ADC’s remarks add to the mounting criticism over perceived regional imbalance and political favoritism in federal appointments under the Tinubu administration.
