Abia State government lifts ban on NURTW operations

The Abia State government has officially lifted the ban on the operations of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) within the state.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by the State Commissioner for Transport, Chimezie Isaac Ukaegbu, following a meeting with representatives of the union from both the state and national levels.

Ukaegbu explained that the decision to lift the ban reflects the government’s commitment to fairness and the creation of a more organised and efficient transport system. He reaffirmed Governor Alex Otti’s dedication to improving transportation services across Abia State.

In response, the National President of the NURTW, Musiliu Akinsanya (popularly known as MC Oluomo), through his representative and Deputy National Chairman, Aliyu Isaa Ore, expressed gratitude to the Abia State government for the decision. He assured that the union would operate in line with the policies and objectives of the Otti administration.

Chukwuma Azode, the newly elected chairman of NURTW in Abia, also pledged to align the union’s activities with the developmental goals of the state. He emphasized that the era of lawlessness was over, describing the union’s fresh mandate as an opportunity to reform and enhance transportation in the state.
