Abia APGA denies reports of merger with ADC, says party is intact

No deal, no defection — APGA fires back at merger claims

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has dismissed reports claiming its Abia South structures have collapsed into the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a press statement on Thursday, APGA’s spokesperson Chukwuemeka Nwokoro called the story false, baseless, and misleading, adding that it was an attempt to distract the party ahead of the 2027 governorship race.

“They left in 2020 — and they’re not coming back”

Nwokoro clarified that the individuals mentioned in the reports are not APGA members, saying that records from Ward 6 in Aba South show they exited the party in 2020 and haven’t been readmitted.

He insisted the party is stable and strong across all 17 LGAs in Abia, and there’s no leadership crisis at any level.

Strong leadership, stronger ambition for 2027

The party reaffirmed its leadership under Ambassador Sunday Onukwubiri as State Chairman and Chief Lucky Erondu as head of the Abia South structure. Local Government Chairmen, according to Nwokoro, are aligned and working in unity.

He also pointed to recent electoral wins — like Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (Abia South) and Alex Ikwechegh (Aba North/South Federal Constituency) — as proof of APGA’s political relevance in the state.

No merger, no distractions

Nwokoro urged Abians and the general public to ignore any talk of a merger or defection.

“Without any fear of contradiction, APGA remains intact, strong, and formidable,” he said. “Our structures across all three senatorial zones are fully functional — and we’re focused on 2027.”
