Borussia Dortmund had to dig deep in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal tie against Spanish counterpart Atletico Madrid.
The result was a six goal thriller that saw Dortmund come out on top in the game and in the tie, winning the game 4-2 and the tie 5-4.
Dortmund had Karim Adeyemi, Jadon Sancho, Mats Hummels, Emre Can, and Gregory Kobel starting. Atletico also had key players like Alvaro Morata, Antoine Griezmann, Jose Gimenez, Jan Oblak, and Rodrigo De Paul in the lineup.
The goal fest started with a superb strike from Julian Brandt. Then Chelsea loanee Ian Maatsen struck home for 2-0, putting Dortmund ahead in the tie for the first time.
Atletico responded though, with Hummels turning in an own goal in the 49th minute to make the game 2-1, and the tie 3-3. Angel Correa then scored in the 64th minute to make the game 2-2, once again putting Atletico ahead in the time.
Goals kept flying in though, as Niklas Fulkrug scored in the 71st minute to equalise the tie at 4-4, before Marcel Sabitzer finally scored in the 74th minute to put Dortmund ahead 4-2 in the game, and 5-4 in the tie.
It was almost surprising to see no other goal go in, considering how the game had gone up until that point.
This win sends Dortmund to the semifinal where Paris Saint-Germain awaits, knocking Atletico out of the coveted European competition.
Real Madrid is now the only Spanish team left in the UCL.
