Palmer bags hattrick as Chelsea snatches victory from jaws of defeat
Chelsea miraculously left Stamford Bridge last night as the winning side as forward Cole Palmer bagged a hattrick against Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United.
The match was played in London on Thursday, April 4.
Both teams were shocked at the outcome, as Man United were still on course to win the game as of the 99th minute of the game.
Chelsea went 2-0 up, only to be pegged back 2-2, then go behind 3-2. They then fought back to score two goals in one minute, thanks to former Manchester City forward Palmer.
Captain for the night, Conor Gallagher, smashed home a goal in the 4th minute of the game. Palmer doubled the lead through a penalty in the 19th minute after Marc Cucurella was brought down in the box.
With Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea cruising at 2-0 up, everything looked rosy.
However, Alejandro Garnacho scored in the 34th minute to make the game 2-1, then Bruno Fernandes headed home superbly to tie the game at 2-2 in the 39th minute.
Garnacho again scored in the 67th minute to complete the comeback giving the away side the lead for the first time in the game.
Things remained that way, until 10 minutes into added time, when Noni Madueke was brought down in the box by Diogo Dalot, earning the Blues another penalty, which Palmer buried in the bottom left corner for his second of the night.
Less than a minute later, Chelsea took a short corner, which was squared to Palmer. Palmer lashed the ball with his strong left foot, and it took a deflection off Scott McTominay’s shoulder to beat Man United’s goalkeeper Andre Onana to win the game for Pochettino’s men, and completing Palmer’s hat trick.
This dramatic win pushes Chelsea up the Premier League table from 12th to 10th, leaving Manchester United in 6th.
