Seun Kuti clarifies stance, says he’s against colonialism, not Europeans
In a powerful statement that challenges widespread perceptions, Nigerian musician Seun Kuti has declared that his opposition is directed at European colonialism, not European people. Known for his outspoken views on imperialism and corruption, the singer took to social media to clarify his position.
In a post on his Instagram page, Seun emphasized the need for a just and fairer world, distancing himself from any suggestion of animosity towards Europeans. He explained that his criticism of European colonial rule should not be interpreted as hatred for individuals from those regions.
“I’m against European colonisation and imperialism, but that does not mean that I’m against European people. Many Europeans have been our allies in the fight against greed and unfair systems, to make the world a fairer place for everyone,” Seun wrote.
He further added, “Being against colonisation does not mean being against Europeans; many have stood with us in the fight for justice and fairness.”
Seun Kuti’s statement comes as part of his ongoing advocacy for global justice and the dismantling of systems he believes perpetuate inequality.
