Police barricade emir of Kano’s main palace, disrupt royal ceremony in Bichi

Police on Thursday blocked the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, from leaving his palace to attend a royal ceremony in Bichi Local Government Area, sparking tension across the state.

Security forces reportedly cordoned off both the Emir’s palace and the event venue in Bichi, leaving attendees and organizers stranded. Efforts by the Kano State Governor’s representatives to mediate were unsuccessful, as they were also denied access beyond the police barricade.

“His Excellency sent representatives to meet with the Emir and mediate, but even they were not allowed past the barricade,” a source close to the state government disclosed.

While speculation has mounted about potential political motives, neither the Kano State Government nor the Emirate Council has issued an official statement.

When contacted, Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, declined to provide details, saying, “I cannot comment on the matter at this time.”

The reasons behind the disruption remain unclear, leaving many in the state uneasy as they await further clarification from authorities.
