Nigerian social media personality Bobrisky arrested by EFCC after flight removal

Nigerian social media influencer, Bobrisky, was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Thursday night after being removed from an Amsterdam-bound KLM flight.

The dramatic events unfolded when Bobrisky was forcibly removed from the flight by airport officials, hours after social commentator Isaac Fayose posted a photo of himself and Bobrisky boarding the same flight to London.

Bobrisky took to Instagram, alleging the EFCC was responsible for his detention and claiming he was “badly injured” during the arrest.

This incident is the latest in Bobrisky’s ongoing legal battles. In April 2024, he was sentenced to six months in prison for naira abuse. An audio recording also surfaced, alleging Bobrisky bribed EFCC officers with N15 million to drop money laundering charges.

The EFCC denied these allegations and launched an investigation. Director of Public Affairs Wilson Uwajaren stated Bobrisky could face fresh charges if the allegations against the EFCC are proven false.

The EFCC Act states that providing false information can lead to prosecution. Uwajaren emphasized, “Once we conclude our investigation, we will brief you on the outcome.”

Bobrisky’s removal from the flight and subsequent arrest have sparked widespread attention, highlighting the ongoing controversy surrounding his social media presence and legal troubles.
