Benue: Alia appoints first female Secretary to the State Government

On Thursday, September 12, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia made history by swearing in Barrister Aber Deborah as the first female Secretary to the State Government (SSG) in the state.

During the ceremony at the Old Banquet Hall of the Benue State Government House in Makurdi, Governor Alia praised the role of women in society and expressed his trust in their abilities. He highlighted that Deborah’s appointment reflects his administration’s commitment to merit and diversity in leadership.

“As the first woman ever to be appointed as Secretary to the State Government in Benue State, Barr. Aber Serumun Deborah’s appointment is a testament to the confidence I, and indeed this administration, have in the abilities of the women of Benue,” Alia said. He added, “We recognize the important roles women play in our society, and this appointment reflects our determination to elevate merit and diversity in leadership.”

Governor Alia expressed full confidence in Deborah’s ability to perform her duties, which include coordinating government activities, fostering collaboration among ministries, and driving policies for the state’s sustainable development. He urged public servants, stakeholders, and the people of Benue to support Deborah and his administration.

In her response, Deborah thanked God and Governor Alia for the opportunity to serve as the first female SSG. She promised to work diligently and align her efforts with the administration’s goals, aiming to set a solid foundation for a more prosperous Benue.
