Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has instructed the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources to hand over all facilities at the newly established Nazari Livestock Development Centre in Jakusko Local Government Area to leaders of the Fulani herdsmen.
This decision was announced in a statement from the Ministry’s Chief Information Officer, Aishatu Tijjani, made public on Monday, October 21. The governor emphasized that the transfer is necessary as the multi-billion naira project is now ready for occupation and use.
Buni noted that his administration, in partnership with the Federal Government, has invested substantial resources into constructing this reserve, which is recognized as the second-largest livestock development center in sub-Saharan Africa.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the grazing reserve to foster socio-economic growth and enhance livestock production within the state.
“The construction of the Nazari Livestock Development Centre is a deliberate policy by his administration to settle herders in one place, allowing them to focus on their grazing activities and enroll their children in school,” the statement read.
The grazing reserve’s facilities include a milk collection center, health services for both humans and animals, a primary school for nomadic children, and a feed mill. Additional resources comprise an artificial insemination center, breed improvement facilities, warehouses, and aquaculture ponds, all designed to boost livestock production in the state.
