Yemi Solade publicly apologises to Afeez Owo for slapping him on movie set
Veteran Nollywood actor Yemi Solade has issued a public apology to his colleague, Afeez Owo, for slapping him during a movie shoot over two decades ago.
Solade made the apology during a recent appearance on the Behind the Fame: African A-List podcast, where he recounted the incident and expressed regret for his actions.
According to the actor, the altercation took place more than 20 years ago while they were filming in Ibadan. Afeez Owo, whose full name is Afeez Abiodun, was serving as the production manager on the set at the time.
“Let me apologise to actor Afeez Abiodun, whom I once slapped many years back,” Solade said. “He was the production manager of the movie. It happened over 20 years ago — I can’t recall the exact year.”
Solade explained that tensions ran high after filming due to a blackout, and frustration on set boiled over.
“There was a power outage after filming, and as the production manager, Afeez was the one everyone vented their frustrations on,” he continued. “I was upset because I felt he wasn’t taking me seriously, and in that moment, out of nowhere, in the dark, the slap happened. I didn’t like that I reacted that way.”
The actor concluded with a heartfelt plea:
“Afeez, I’m sorry. Please don’t be offended. I’ve spoken about the incident before, but I want to address you directly now and apologise.”
The apology has been met with praise from fans and colleagues, who commended Solade for his humility and willingness to make amends publicly.
