We’re not responsible for HND admissions – JAMB

Nigeria’s examination body, The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has said it is not responsible for the admission process for higher national diploma (HND) students.

JAMB said this in a statement by its spokesman, Fabian Benjamin, adding that it has no involvement, authority, or control over the admissions process for HND candidates.

According to the statement, JAMB is also not responsible for other higher institutions’ programmes besides their regular admissions.

The board further reiterated that candidates’ HND admissions are unknown and irrelevant to the mandate of JAMB.

You may recall that some HND students had earlier accused the board of being responsible for their inability to go for their National Youth Service scheme, NYSC.

The students were said to have claimed they were not mobilised for service because they did a part-time programme for their national diploma, ND.

“Most of the students were reported to have been admitted into their institutions for the National Diploma without the knowledge of the Board. With this, the Board graciously condoned and endorsed the said admission for the ND programme, and that was the only relationship with such candidates.

“Their subsequent admission to HND is unknown and irrelevant to the mandate of the Board. As such, accusing the Board of issues it has no mandate over is preposterous.

“Some of these candidates have crossed the lines of criminality, which the Board will soon appropriately address,” the board said.
