Uzodimma receives PDP defectors into APC in Imo

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has officially welcomed a large group of defectors from the People’s Democratic Party into the All Progressives Congress. The event, which took place in the state capital, Owerri, saw several high-ranking PDP officials and their supporters switch their political allegiance. This development is seen as a significant boost for the APC as it seeks to consolidate its hold on the South-East region.
A shift in the political landscape of Imo
The defectors cited the visionary leadership of Governor Uzodimma and the internal crisis within the PDP as their primary reasons for leaving. They expressed their commitment to working with the current administration to bring more development to the people of Imo. The Governor, in his speech, described the move as a homecoming for those who want to see the state progress.
Uzodimma emphasized that the APC is a big tent that has enough room for everyone who shares the goal of national development. He promised the new members that they would be treated with the same respect and opportunities as the founding members of the party. This mass defection is expected to weaken the opposition’s capacity to mount a serious challenge in the upcoming local elections.
Consolidating power through inclusive governance
The Governor noted that his administration’s focus on infrastructure and security has made the APC more attractive to the electorate. He highlighted the various road projects and youth empowerment schemes that have been launched across the state’s three senatorial zones. By bringing in leaders from the opposition, Uzodimma aims to create a unified political front that minimizes friction.
He urged the new members to go back to their respective wards and mobilize more people for the party. The goal is to ensure that the APC becomes a household name in every corner of Imo State before the 2027 general elections. The Governor’s supporters have hailed this event as a masterstroke that has effectively decapitated the opposition in the state.
Preparing for future electoral challenges
The APC leadership in the South-East has welcomed this development as a sign of the party’s growing acceptance in the region. They believe that more leaders from other parties will soon join the APC as they see the benefits of being part of the ruling party at the center. Uzodimma has positioned himself as a key figure in the party’s strategy to win over more states in the region.
The defectors, led by former state executives and lawmakers, have promised to use their structures to strengthen the APC. They noted that the time for partisan bickering is over and that the focus should be on delivering the dividends of democracy. As the political map of Imo State is redrawn, the people wait to see how these changes will translate into better governance.
