USDA blocks illegal immigrants from getting food benefits

On Friday, April 25, the United States Secretary of Agriculture, Brooke Rollins, gave a strong new order to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to make sure illegal immigrants do not receive food benefits paid for by American taxpayers.

Rollins also told state agencies to tighten how they check if someone qualifies for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which helps low-income families buy food.

“President Trump has made it clear that American taxpayers will no longer subsidize illegal aliens,” Rollins said in her statement.

“We are stewards of taxpayer dollars, and it is our duty to ensure states confirm the identity and verify the immigration status of SNAP applicants.

“USDA’s nutrition programs are intended to support the most vulnerable Americans. To allow those who broke our laws by entering the United States illegally to receive these benefits is outrageous,” she added.

This new move supports President Donald Trump’s executive order from Wednesday, February 19, which tells federal agencies to find all programs giving money or aid to illegal immigrants—and stop it.

It’s one more step in the Trump administration’s plan to tighten immigration rules and make sure taxpayer money only goes to legal U.S. residents.
