US excludes UK, Nigeria, and others from 2025 visa-free entry list

On Tuesday, February 25, 2025, the United States announced the updated list of countries eligible for the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) for 2025, and some notable countries were left out.
The United Kingdom, a previous participant, has been removed from the program but remains eligible under specific conditions. Additionally, several African countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, and South Africa, are not included in the updated list.
While the VWP list saw minimal changes, Romania was notably added to the list of eligible countries.
The U.S. Bureau of Consular Affairs explained that the Visa Waiver Program allows citizens from eligible countries to travel to the U.S. for tourism or business for up to 90 days without needing a visa, as long as they have a valid Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) approval before traveling. The agency also noted that travelers who prefer a traditional visa can still apply for one.
Along with the revised list, the 2025 VWP also introduces new updates on permit eligibility and changes to travel policies.
