US Election: Donald Trump to hold first outdoor rally since July 13 assassination attempt
Former US President and Republican candidate Donald Trump is set to hold his first outdoor rally since narrowly escaping an assassination attempt on July 13. The rally will take place on Wednesday, August 21, at an aviation museum in Asheboro, North Carolina.
According to reports from US media, security measures for the event have been significantly heightened. The use of bulletproof glass around Trump’s podium will be among the enhanced precautions to ensure his safety.
The Secret Service had advised Trump to avoid outdoor events following a recent incident in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a gunman fired from a rooftop at a rally, injuring Trump in the ear and killing one person in the crowd.
Despite this advice, Trump has expressed a strong desire to return to open-air rallies. On July 31, he told supporters at an indoor arena in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, that “we’re not giving up the outdoor rallies.”
He also stated on social media that he would continue hosting such events, with the Secret Service agreeing to increase their security measures to ensure his safety.
