UNIJOS ASUU members withdraw services over delayed June salary

Lecturers at the University of Jos have withdrawn their services in protest over the delayed payment of their June 2025 salaries, following a directive from the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), UNIJOS branch.
The strike, which began at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 4, was triggered by the federal government’s failure to pay salaries by the third day of the month a violation of an existing resolution by ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC).
Confirming the development, ASUU UNIJOS Chairperson Jurbe Molwus stated that the withdrawal would remain in effect until salaries are fully paid, in accordance with the union’s agreement with the government.
“Dear comrades, this is to request all members to abstain from lectures and statutory meetings if our salary for June 2025 is not paid by 11:59 p.m. today, July 3,” Molwus said in a message circulated to members. “This is in line with the extant NEC resolution and our congress resolution of June 4, 2025.”
The union stressed that this action aligns with a national stance that allows branches to independently respond to salary delays. In accordance with the branch’s decision, a strike monitoring team has been activated to ensure full compliance.
Molwus warned that if such delays continue, lecturers will continue to withdraw services each time salaries are not paid promptly.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the federal government or the university management regarding the situation.
