UK government bans Chelsea and Man City fans from traveling to the Club World Cup

On Wednesday, April 2, the UK government announced that around 150 supporters of Chelsea and Manchester City will be prohibited from attending the 2025 Club World Cup in the United States.

The ban was imposed due to their involvement in previous incidents of “thuggish behaviour” related to football.

The Home Office revealed that these fans, who have been issued banning orders, were linked to offences such as violence, disorder, pitch invasions, use of pyrotechnics, and online hate crimes.

The updated legislation came into effect on Wednesday in preparation for the FIFA-organized tournament, which will take place across 11 cities in the United States from June 14 to July 13.

Both Chelsea and Manchester City earned their spots in the tournament by winning the Champions League within the last four years. The teams are set to play their group stage matches in Atlanta, Philadelphia, and Orlando.

Fans affected by the banning orders are required to surrender their passports to the police at least five days before the tournament kicks off in Miami, with the final scheduled near New York.
